Cabo
San Lucas
Outrageous, action-packed Cabo San Lucas is
the Cabo you see on MTV. It's spring break here year-round, making
it the preferred home base for the let-it-all-hang-out crowd. Cabo
San Lucas offers rowdy nightlife, a slew of trendy restaurants, and
lively beaches. A major sportfishing fleet is headquartered here,
cruise ships anchor off the marina, and there's a massive hotel on
every available plot of waterfront turf. A pedestrian walkway lined
with restaurants, bars, and shops anchored by the sleek Puerto
Paraíso mall curves around Cabo San Lucas harbor, itself packed with
yachts.
Ensanada
Ensenada
is one of the busiest ports in Mexico -- not surprising, perhaps,
given its proximity to the border of the United States.
Yet past the massive cargo ships anchored in the harbor is a
surprisingly appealing city. Many cruise-ship passengers going
ashore enjoy the city's laid-back vibe by strolling along the
waterfront walk (maybe stopping at the atmospheric fish market) or
taking a horse-drawn carriage ride around the tree-lined streets
(going by a former casino that thrived during Prohibition in the
U.S.). Without going much farther you can also explore the country's
oldest winery or take a whale-watching excursion. No matter what you
choose, you'll be struck by the friendliness of the people, who go
out of their way to make visitors feel welcome.
